Kick off Second Chance Week 2010 with South County Garage Sale Days
It begins with the Gilroy Garage Sale on the weekend of September 11 & 12. This popular event affords residents throughout the South County with an opportunity to give their old items a new life with a new owner. A list of garage sales will be available at both City Halls on the Friday before the sale and on the web at www.secondchanceweek.com. Deadline to apply is Friday, September 3rd.

High Speed Rail Final Environmental Impact Report

Local artist, Julie Franco, who is featured this month in the Gilroy Today magazine, under the Gilroy’s Got Talent section, has 14 of her pieces on Exhibit at Gilroy City Hall.

California High Speed Rail Facts
In an effort to keep the public informed on the scope, development and potential impacts of the California High Speed Rail project on Gilroy and the surrounding region, a High Speed Rail information center has been established at Gilroy City Hall, 7351 Rosanna Street. The center is located at the south end of the main hallway in City Hall, and contains large maps, handouts and other information which will supplement the information already available on the internet. City hall hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It is important for area residents to stay informed so that you can participate in the Gilroy Area Community Engagement that the California High Speed Rail Authority will be conducting. Watch for information and links on this City website for further information about dates and times for the Engagement Process.

Safe Routes to Christopher High School
The City of Gilroy is working closely with the Gilroy Unified School District to provide safe walking and driving routes to the new Christopher High School. The following information will be in effect when school opens on August 18th and until further notice.

New City Hall Office Hours
Effective Friday, April 23rd, 2010, City Hall Offices will be open Monday through Thursday. The 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month are furlough days and there will be no employees at City Hall. On the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month, staff will be working on projects and activities although city offices will not be accessible for public office hours. Some departments may arrange for appointments on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month. These appointments should be requested with the individual department. Field and emergency services personnel will function as normal on non-furlough Fridays.

We need your help to create the Gilroy Climate Action Plan (CAP) that will provide a roadmap for achieving reductions in greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions and will help Gilroy become a more sustainable place to live. Next Coffee with the Mayor is Saturday, September 25th
At 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers. There are currently many ways in which citizens can engage the Mayor in discussion, but Coffee with the Mayor venues provide an additional, informal setting in which the Mayor can answer questions and otherwise engage in specific or broad discussions on city issues with Gilroy residents. City Office Furlough Closures
Effective July 1, 2009, most non-public safety City employees will be observing mandatory non-work furlough days on the first and third Fridays of each month. City offices will be closed on these days. The furlough cost reduction program is scheduled to remain in effect through June 30, 2011. On these furlough days, City Hall, City buildings and the Police Department Lobby will be closed to the public. This furlough program has been instituted to achieve necessary budget reductions.
