Update on Residential Development Ordinances (RDO)

Glen Loma 03

EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 6, 2017 the City Council took action to not extend the RDO (residential development ordinance) allowances until after adoption of the Gilroy 2040 General Plan. Those RDO allocations for development projects that were deemed to be ‘complete’ for processing by November 6th may continue through the development process. However, all other allocations are now expired.

Therefore, at this time, the Planning Division cannot accept new applications for residential development projects, with the exception of those that have existing RDO allocations and projects that are exempt from RDO numeric limits. Such exempt projects include those consisting of four or fewer residential units, those located within the Downtown Specific Plan area, and those proposals that receive a special exception from the City Council pursuant to GCC section 30.50.60(c)(3).

The City Council will reconsider RDO allocations at the completion of the 2040 General Plan process, currently anticipated to occur by the end of 2019.

For additional information, please contact the Planning Division at (408) 846-0451.
